The short version
- Shift, job, and earnings data are stored locally on your device by default.
- We don’t run servers that collect your work logs.
- No ads, no third-party analytics, and no sale of your data.
- No account required to track your hours.
- Optional iCloud sync uses Apple’s CloudKit in your private container.
- Exports (CSV, PDF, etc.) happen only when you choose to share them.
1. Information we collect
Shiftly is built to work without an account and without sending your work records to us. The information below is what the app may store on your device to function.
Shift & time entries
Data you enter while tracking work, such as clock-in and clock-out times, shift duration, breaks, overtime, and dates. This is the core data Shiftly uses to show summaries, weekly totals, and pay estimates.
Jobs & workplaces
Names, colors, icons, or labels you assign to jobs or employers (for example “Café downtown” or “Weekend shift”). This helps you organize shifts across multiple roles.
Pay & earnings settings
Optional details such as hourly rate, salary type, currency, pay period, and estimated earnings. Shiftly uses these only to calculate totals you see in the app — we do not process payroll or send payments.
Notes & tags
Free-text notes or tags you attach to a shift (for example “covered for Alex”). You control what you write; avoid entering sensitive personal data about others unless you have a lawful reason to do so.
Location (optional)
If you enable location-based reminders or geofenced clock-in, Shiftly may use your device’s location only while the feature is active. Location is not required to use the app, and you can turn this off in settings and revoke permission in System Settings.
App settings
Preferences such as default job, week start day, reminders, appearance, and notification schedules are saved locally.
Diagnostic data (only if you opt in)
If you voluntarily send a crash report or feedback, we may receive anonymous technical details — app version, OS version, and a stack trace. We never include your shift history or pay details in these reports unless you paste them yourself.
2. How we use information
Information in Shiftly is used only to provide the app’s features:
- To log, edit, and display your shifts and time totals.
- To calculate hours, breaks, overtime, and estimated pay.
- To show charts, summaries, and pay-period reports.
- To deliver reminders and notifications you configure.
- To sync data across your devices when you enable iCloud.
- To fix bugs in crash reports you explicitly submit.
We do not use your data for advertising, employment screening, selling insights to employers, or training third-party AI models.
3. Where your data lives
Your shifts, jobs, and settings are stored in Shiftly’s local application container on your device, protected by the operating system’s sandbox and your device passcode or biometrics.
You can delete individual shifts, clear history, or remove all app data by uninstalling Shiftly. Back up your device regularly if you rely on local storage only.
4. iCloud sync (optional)
Shiftly may offer optional sync so your data appears on your other Apple devices signed into the same iCloud account. If you enable it:
- Sync is handled by Apple CloudKit in your private iCloud container.
- We cannot read or access your synced work data on our servers.
- You can disable sync anytime in Shiftly’s settings.
Apple’s handling of iCloud data is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy.
5. Permissions we request
Shiftly only asks for permissions needed for features you use:
- Notifications — optional, for shift reminders or clock-out alerts.
- Location — optional, only if you use location-based clock-in or reminders.
- Calendar — optional, only if you choose to add shifts to your calendar.
- iCloud — optional, only if you turn on sync.
You can review and revoke permissions anytime in your device’s privacy settings.
6. Export & sharing
Shiftly may let you export reports (for example CSV or PDF) or share summaries with your employer, accountant, or yourself via email or other apps. These actions are initiated by you. Once you export or share data outside Shiftly, that copy is governed by the app or service you send it to.
We do not automatically upload your work logs to the cloud or email them to anyone on your behalf.
7. Third-party services
Shiftly does not embed third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. We rely on Apple for the operating system, App Store distribution (if applicable), and optional CloudKit sync. If you use in-app purchases or subscriptions, payment processing is handled by Apple — we receive only transaction metadata needed to unlock features, not your shift content.
9. Data retention
Shift and job data remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. Voluntary crash reports are kept only as long as needed to resolve the issue, then deleted.
10. Security
Shiftly uses your device’s built-in protections: app sandboxing, encrypted storage where the OS provides it, and optional device lock. Use a strong passcode and keep your OS updated. Work time data can be sensitive — treat exports and backups with the same care you would for financial records.
11. Your rights
Because your data stays on your device, you control it directly. You can:
- View, edit, and delete any shift or job in the app.
- Turn off optional features such as location or sync.
- Export your data for your own records.
- Uninstall Shiftly to remove local data in its container.
If you are in the EU, UK, California, or another region with privacy laws (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA), you may have additional rights. Contact us below and we will respond within applicable timeframes.
12. Children’s privacy
Shiftly is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has contacted us with personal data, email us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Shiftly changes or when laws require it. We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes may also be noted in the app or release notes.
