Privacy Policy

ClipNest is a clipboard manager built around a simple promise: your clipboard belongs to you. This page explains what data ClipNest handles, where it lives, and the rights you have.

Effective date: May 13, 2026 Last updated: May 13, 2026

The short version

  • ClipNest stores your clipboard history locally on your device.
  • We don’t run servers that collect your clipboard content.
  • We don’t sell, share, or rent your data — there’s nothing to sell.
  • No accounts, no tracking, no third-party analytics SDKs.
  • Optional iCloud sync is end-to-end handled by Apple’s CloudKit.

1. Information we collect

ClipNest is designed to operate without an account and without transmitting your clipboard data to us. The categories below describe everything ClipNest could touch.

Clipboard content

When you copy something on your device, ClipNest may store that snippet in a local history so you can paste it again later. Snippets may include text, links, code, rich text, and image previews. This content is stored on your device only.

App settings

Preferences such as your hotkeys, theme, history size, ignored apps, and pinned items are saved locally so ClipNest can restore your setup between launches.

Diagnostic data (only if you opt in)

If you choose to send a crash report or feedback from within the app, ClipNest will include anonymous technical details — such as app version, OS version, and a stack trace. We never include the contents of your clipboard in diagnostic reports.

2. How we use information

The data ClipNest handles is used only to make the app work:

  • To show your clipboard history and let you paste previous items.
  • To respect your settings and preferences across launches.
  • To diagnose crashes you voluntarily report so we can fix bugs.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, training machine-learning models, or any analytics purpose beyond what you explicitly send us.

3. Where your data lives

Your clipboard history and settings are stored in ClipNest’s local application container on your device, in the standard location managed by the operating system. They are protected by the same sandbox and file-system permissions as any other app you install.

You can clear your clipboard history at any time from inside ClipNest, or delete all data by uninstalling the app.

4. iCloud sync (optional)

ClipNest offers an optional iCloud sync feature so your clipboard history can follow you between your Apple devices. If you enable it:

  • Sync is handled by Apple’s CloudKit, tied to your iCloud account.
  • Your data is stored in your private iCloud container — we cannot read it.
  • You can turn sync off at any time in ClipNest’s settings.

Apple’s handling of iCloud data is governed by their own policies; see Apple’s privacy documentation for details.

5. Permissions we request

ClipNest only asks for the permissions it needs to function:

  • Accessibility / pasteboard access — required to monitor and paste clipboard content.
  • Launch at login — optional, so ClipNest is ready when you sign in.
  • iCloud — optional, only if you turn on sync.
  • Notifications — optional, for status messages you opt into.

6. Third-party services

ClipNest does not embed third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. The only third-party platform we rely on is Apple, which provides the operating system, the App Store, and the optional CloudKit sync infrastructure.

7. Sharing & selling

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with anyone. Since ClipNest doesn’t collect your clipboard content on our side, there is nothing for us to share.

8. Data retention

Clipboard history is retained on your device until you delete it or it rolls out of the history size you configured. Diagnostic reports you submit are retained only long enough to investigate the underlying issue and are then deleted.

9. Security

ClipNest relies on your device’s built-in security model: app sandboxing, disk encryption, and per-app data containers. We recommend keeping your operating system up to date and enabling full-disk encryption. No system is perfectly secure, but ClipNest is built to minimize what is exposed in the first place.

10. Your rights

Because your data stays on your device, you are already in control of it. You can:

  • View and edit your clipboard history at any time.
  • Clear individual items, time ranges, or the entire history.
  • Disable iCloud sync and remove the iCloud copy.
  • Uninstall ClipNest to remove all locally stored data.

Users in the EU, UK, California, and similar jurisdictions have statutory rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA. If you believe we hold any data about you, you can contact us using the details below and we will help you exercise those rights.

11. Children’s privacy

ClipNest is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app or in legal requirements. When we do, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be announced inside the app.
